Quick guide: Morocco essentials

🛂 Visa & entry

Visa-free stays of up to 90 days for many passport holders, including Canada, the US, the UK, the EU and Australia. Your passport should be valid for at least six months.

💉 Vaccines & health risks

Routine vaccines plus hepatitis A and typhoid. Consider rabies vaccine for long trips or contact with animals.

🚗 Driving

Drive on the right. An International Driving Permit is recommended. Expect frequent police checkpoints and speed traps, and demanding mountain roads in the Atlas.

🏥 Healthcare & emergencies

Good private clinics in big cities, limited care in rural areas; payment is often up front, so get insurance. Emergencies: 19 (police), 15 (ambulance), 112 from mobiles.

⚖️ Drug laws

Cannabis (kif, hashish) is widely grown and often offered to tourists, but recreational use is illegal and can mean prison. Licensed medical and industrial cannabis was legalised in 2021, which doesn't cover visitors.

🎉 Nightlife & party scene

More low-key than Europe. Alcohol is served in licensed bars, hotels and some restaurants; Marrakech and Casablanca have clubs and rooftop bars, and Agadir and Tangier have beach-side scenes. Hours change during Ramadan. Public drunkenness is an offence.

Last reviewed 2026-10-17. Entry, health and legal rules change and can depend on your passport; always confirm with official sources before you travel.
